Gruen is probably most famous for Southdale Center in Edina, Minnesota, a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis. Southdale is generally recognized as the first fully enclosed, climate-controlled shopping mall in the nation, and while that was certainly significant, its ultimate form fell far short of Gruen’s vision.”
